Cover the container with a tight lid and leave it for at least 8-12 hours in a dark place at home. It is recommended to prepare it in the morning to be able to calm the cough at night.

After the rest time, strain the syrup to extract the onion residue. At this point, it is normal for the honey to not have a very thick consistency, but rather become a little more liquid. 

Store the syrup in the same container and put it in the refrigerator to extend its shelf life. Note: The syrup can last up to two months, which is why many people prefer to make it in advance once cold and flu season approaches.
